How we empower SMEs and local economies with our FTTB solutions

In a world that often values profit over people, we’re dedicated to empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and supporting local economies and entrepreneurship in South Africa. As a leading provider of Fibre to the Business (FTTB) solutions, we enable businesses to connect and grow their operations. By partnering with local organisations such as the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival, The Daily Grind Innovation Hub (TDGIH), and Ikhaya le Langa, we forge lasting business relationships beyond connectivity.

“At RSAWEB, we believe that providing access to reliable and affordable connectivity for all South Africans is essential to succeed in today’s digital age. We’re proud to partner with community-driven organisations to empower SMEs and local economies with fast, high-quality Fibre-to-the-Business (FTTB) solutions to create a more inclusive and prosperous South Africa. We’re passionate about supporting entrepreneurship and economic development in local communities because we know that when these communities thrive, everyone benefits,” says Rudy van Staden, CEO of RSAWEB.

This festival is all about the children, the community and showing outsiders what our wonderful town can offer. RSAWEB's sponsorship was instrumental in making the festival a success, and the support took a heavy weight off our shoulders. We have massive dreams for the festival, such as increasing its overall quality, ensuring that all schools can participate, and that live streaming of the matches is available for parents who can't attend the tournament. We also aim to create an outreach water polo team to promote the game among all South African schools,"

Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival

In February 2023, we extended our support to the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival ─ an annual water polo tournament held in Knysna since 2011. Over the years, the festival has become the biggest of its kind, with this year’s event attracting over 1350 players from 107 schools nationwide. By sponsoring WiFi for the coaches, shirts for all players, coaches and referees, and water for all participants and spectators, we enabled the children to connect and compete on a level playing field.

Besides being a school sports event, the festival is an important attraction for Knysna, bringing together youngsters from across the country. This year’s event drew over 5000 people to the coastal town, boosting the local tourism and economy with an impressive R2.5 million. With continued support from sponsors like RSAWEB, the festival will continue to grow and empower the youth, community, and local businesses.

"RSAWEB's FTTB sponsorship has had a tremendous impact, enabling us to repurpose finances to benefit entrepreneurs and SMEs. The FTTB line has helped our coders to gain a competitive edge through in-depth training, fostering an environment of innovation and technology conducive to personal growth and portfolio building. The sponsorship also allows us to meet the ever-increasing connectivity needs of our clients, which has contributed to our continuous success,"

The Daily Grind Innovation Hub

Earlier this year, we implemented an FTTB sponsorship for The Daily Grind Innovation Hub (TDGIH) ─ a business hub that aims to promote economic development in under-served communities throughout South Africa. This hub offers business development support, coding, 3D printing, office rental, hot desking, and co-working spaces to entrepreneurs, youth, and women-owned businesses to transform their entrepreneurial concepts into sustainable businesses that drive economic growth.

The hub aims to nurture entrepreneurship, innovation, and technological advancement to transform job seekers into creators. TDGIH supports 40 SMEs in its Incubation program, has trained, and developed 20 grassroots coders, and upskilled ten unemployed youth with 3D scanning and printing skills.

An SME that has been empowered through our FTTB sponsorship, is Renex Pro ─ a small business in the medical field whose monthly client base grew from one to 120 after being connected. RSAWEB’s sponsorship has also affected participation in coding courses and the outcomes for aspiring coders. TDGIH coders have completed their coding training and business development program, and the connectivity has enabled them to offer efficient and quality connectivity for their new coding cohort scheduled to start on May 1, 2023.

Our partnership with TDGIH has helped to transform entrepreneurship and digital skills development in the Kraaifontein community. Through our support, TDGIH has addressed connectivity challenges and focused on training and development, enabling them to maximise the time spent on building digital skills in the community. With plans to introduce drone tech, robotics, and cybersecurity, TDGIH’s five-year plan is to expand and establish more hubs in under-served Cape Town communities. This partnership will catalyse the expansion, addressing key components such as youth access, connectivity, and infrastructure.

"The impact of RSAWEB's sponsorship has been significant to our daily operations, attracting new corporate tenants and increasing demand for space rentals that benefit the on-site coffee shop, artists, and crafters. The fact that we could provide fast, reliable internet connectivity for multiple users was also a huge consideration in the Sister Cities Africa delegates believing that we were a credible partner and host, albeit from a township community. ,"

CEO of Ikhaya le Langa

Ikhaya le Langa

We’ve also joined forces with Ikhaya le Langa ─ a non-profit organisation based in Langa, Cape Town. This township-based organisation was established in 2011 to empower the local economy by promoting entrepreneurship and creating job opportunities for the community.

One of the most significant ways Ikhaya le Langa has impacted the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Langa is through its high-speed connectivity. This FTTB line, sponsored by RSAWEB, has helped connect multiple stakeholders, including the local community, NGO partners, corporate partners, and tourists. It has also brought a degree of professionalism and quality to the space, helping to mitigate the effects of data scarcity, and allowing entrepreneurs to dream bigger.

In addition to its impact on entrepreneurship, our FTTB sponsorship has also played a role in Ikhaya le Langa’s Cleaner Greener Safer program, which launched on Rubusana Avenue. The Vollar Rewards program, underpinned by our connectivity sponsorship, has helped strengthen the organisation’s relationship with street residents.

Ikhaya le Langa has also formed partnerships with other organisations, such as the Amathuba Collective, which manages the government’s program on behalf of many corporate partners. This partnership has led to the creation a micro call centre at InSTED (Integrated Sustainable Tourism and Enterprise Development) ─ a multi-faceted program through which tourism learnerships support new and existing community-based businesses across the township.

Looking to the future, Ikhaya le Langa plans to launch Visit Langa, a community-based tourism development initiative in partnership with the City of Cape Town, the National Department of Tourism, and Cape Town Tourism. The organisation’s new Tourism Awareness Unit will identify and bring new Langa tourism entrepreneurs and products to market.

Our commitment to empowerment

By building mutually beneficial business relationships through continuous support and connectivity sponsorships in local communities, we help enabling entrepreneurs and SMEs to grow and succeed, leading to sustainable township development and flourishing local economies throughout South Africa.
