NO DNA, JUST RSA: Celebrating South African heritage
RSAWEB is a proudly South African company that embraces and celebrates the diverse cultures that make South Africa unique. During Heritage Month, we amplify our commitment to highlighting the rich tapestry of South African heritage and our staff’s contributions. We’ve asked some of our staff members about their favourite things that make them proudly South African, from cuisine to fashion, music, and more.
South African cuisine
The late Archbishop Desmond Tutu famously coined the term ‘rainbow nation’ to describe South Africa’s vibrant mix of cultures. It’s impossible to truly appreciate South African heritage without indulging in its incredible cuisine.
RSAWEB staff members shared their favourite South African dishes, including the mouthwatering braai vleis, bunny chow, lamb curry, and ulusu with pap and spinach. These diverse foods represent the country’s rich cultural tapestry.
From Indian spices to traditional African flavours, South Africa offers an incredibly diverse culinary landscape. Whether you’re craving sweet, sour, spicy, or wholesome meals, there’s something to satisfy every palate.

Celebrating South African music
South African heritage extends far beyond cuisine, encompassing a vibrant entertainment scene. The diverse cultural landscape has given rise to a rich array of musical genres. From Kwaito, Jazz, Maskandi, Afrikaans music to the current global sensation of Amapiano, South African music continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
According to Spotify CEO Daniel Ek, amapiano achieved 1.4 billion global streams in 2023, with 55% of those coming from outside Africa, highlighting South Africa’s significant global influence. Artists like Liquideep, with their house sounds and relatable lyrics, along with genres like dance and Kwaito, are among the favourites that fuel RSAWEB employees throughout their day.

Local designers are instrumental in promoting South African fashion on a global scale. Some RSAWEB staff enjoy the work of fashion houses like MaXhosa, which recently opened a flagship store in New York City and have gained significant attention from celebrities such as Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Michelle Obama. Their designs, deeply rooted in South African heritage, have played a crucial role in elevating the country’s fashion industry worldwide.
However, some staff members who aren’t into high fashion prefer the more casual look, such as a bucket hat and khaki pants. And when the Springboks are playing, it’s always a good time to whip out the green and gold jersey.
Global icons
South Africa has a long and storied history of producing world-shakers who’ve left an indelible mark not just on our own nation, but on the global stage. From Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu to more recent entertainment icons like Tyla, these South Africans have become ambassadors for our country, spreading our influence far and wide.
Our staff members admire individuals like Trevor Noah, who rose from humble beginnings in Soweto to hosting a prominent daily talk show in the United States, and Esther Mahlangu, a world-renowned artist whose influence within contemporary art spans over seven decades.
