Swimming in success: RSAWEB's impact at Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival and its far-reaching community influence

RSAWEB had the privilege of being the title sponsor at the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival in Knysna, which was a tremendous success. The water polo event, spanning three weekends in February 2024, attracted 46 schools countrywide, creating ample opportunities for students to compete, connect, and hone their sports skills. Thousands of spectators accompanied the children, leading to a substantial financial injection into Knysna’s local economy.

RSAWEB's sponsorship going beyond connectivity

Our presence at the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival aimed to enrich the festival experience for participants and attendees alike.

“We’re extremely proud to have been a part of the highly successful Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival this year. Besides being South Africa’s best-rated ISP, we’ve always been passionate about supporting schools, learners, and their skill development. Sports tournaments like Chukka is exactly the type of events we want to support, boosting the development of schools’ sports in the country. Thank you to everybody involved for making the festival a raving success!” ─ Nick Barr, Head of Marketing at RSAWEB.

At the RSAWEB stand, we hosted a social media competition that resonated with the festival’s youthful energy. Utilising the Chukka filter on Instagram, we encouraged festivalgoers to capture and share their favourite moments. Each day, two or three lucky winners were rewarded with an exclusive RSAWEB summer pack filled with branded goodies. The competition was a huge hit among young and old, resulting in lots of laughter and adding to the festivities.

Beyond mere giveaways, we extended our support to the event by providing essential connectivity for coaches, ensuring seamless communication and coordination. We also provided Oakhill School students and coaches with branded RSAWEB clothing.

To top it off, we facilitated Fibre Internet connectivity to SuperSport, enabling a live stream of the event on DStv’s SuperSport Schools channel 216 and amplifying the festival’s reach to a national audience.

The impact on the local economy and the community beyond the festival

“The unity shown by schools and players alike inspired all to keep moving forward together this weekend and the message was loud and clear: sports provide hope when we most need it.” ─ Luandi Liebenberg, Oakhill’s Head of College Sport and organiser of the festivals. The economic significance of the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival cannot be understated. Over the duration of the festival, an estimated 50,000 people attend made up of players, coaches and spectators, transforming the Knysna into a bustling hub, contributing an estimated R3 million into the local economy. The influx of people and spend into the Knysna community helps boost local businesses across the tourism, accommodation and entertainment sectors.

Looking ahead to 2025

As the Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival concluded, its impact on Knysna and the surrounding area remains. We are incredibly proud of our involvement in the success of this festival and look forward to joining the event again in 2025.
