Stay entertained this summer with the RSAWEB staff’s streaming favourites

The festive season is almost upon us, signalling the end of another year. In 2023, we saw drastic rises in fuel costs limiting our movements yet again, with our least favourite houseguest, loadshedding, demanding a near permanent spot in our households. But there were also loads to celebrate as our beloved Springboks were crowned back-to-back world champions!

As a proudly South African internet service provider, we’re a determined and passionate bunch that won’t let a few setbacks steal our smiles. We’ve chatted with our staff to learn how they stay entertained online and what makes the RSAWEB network such an exceptional streaming source.

Favourite streaming platforms

RSAWEBs staff enjoy various streaming platforms, with Netflix and Disney+ topping the popularity poll. Showmax and DStv Stream also made the cut for those who prefer a local flavour. And the age-old favourite, YouTube, sneaked in the backdoor as its video variety could pretty much keep anyone entertained for hours.

Favourite entertainment genres

When you have a group of culturally diverse, multi-generational people, you’re bound to discover a wide spectrum of interests ─ our staff’s genres of choice are no exception.

From the regular favourites, like romantic comedy, action and sci-fi, to true crime, dark comedy and fantasy. A handful of staff members enjoy documentaries, and one chose the unique genre of fiction based on realism.

An interesting phenomenon

You might assume most people prefer watching movies over series, but RSAWEB’s staff beg to differ. Even though half of our staff enjoy both, the other 50% prefer watching only series. What led to this shift in entertainment preference, you’re asking?

We could argue that watching an hour-long episode requires a shorter attention span than a two-hour movie. Yet, following a show over several seasons indicates longer interest and investment. Could it be a generational trend? Only time will tell.

Favourite movies of 2023

The Equalizer 3 (Prime Video)

The Queenstown Kings (Netflix)

The Creator (Apple TV | Prime Video)

Luther: The Fallen Sun (Netflix)

The Informer (Netflix)

Barbie (Apple TV)

The Little Mermaid (Apple TV | Disney+)

Favourite series of 2023

Rick and Morty (season 7 – (Netflix)

Succession (season 4 ─ Showmax)

The Crown (season 7 ─ (Netflix)

Beckham (mini-series – (Netflix)

Shaka iLembe (season 1 – DStv Stream)

Invasion (season 2 – Apple TV)

House of the Dragon (season 1 – Showmax | Prime Video)

Timeless television classics

A list of streaming favourites isn’t complete without a few classic television shows many of us already know by heart. Topping the RSAWEB binge-worthy list is:

The Office (Netflix)

Friends (Netflix)

The Big Bang Theory (Netflix)

Other binge-worthy favourites

These series might not qualify as timeless classics yet, but they’re worth watching if you’re looking for multi-season series to stream over the holidays:

Better Call Saul (Netflix)

The Good Doctor (Netflix)

Suits (Netflix)

Grey’s Anatomy (Disney+)

Prison Break (Netflix)

Game of Thrones (Showmax)

The RA Engar ICT Academy was established in 2023 in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu Natal, and forms part of Digital Skills Africa ─ a non-profit organisation. This lab is free for use by anyone, although the focus is on educating the unemployed youth.

The lab offers classes to develop students’ digital skills, enabling them to utilise technology in their future careers. Each class can cater for up to twenty students and the course material is provided by the Cisco Networking Academy and aligned to industry certifications. Upon completion of a certification, the lab also assists students with their LinkedIn profiles, CV revamps, and job searches.
