PANEL 01 / 07 — COVER

25

Years of RSAWEB

From a Cape Town frustration with slow, unreliable internet to the connectivity backbone behind South African business. This wall walks that line, one splice at a time.

2001 —— 2026
PANEL 02 / 07 — 2001–2005

Chapter One

The dial-up rebellion

2001 → 2005

RSAWEB is born out of its founders' frustration with the state of South African internet — and sets out to do it better.

2001
RSAWEB is founded
Two directors set out to build modern, simple, user-friendly internet services for South Africa. Local web hosting launches soon after.
2003
Business ADSL launches
Always-on access changes the landscape — South African homes and offices go online 24/7 for the first time.
2005
First data centre + cloud
RSAWEB opens its first data centre and launches its cloud platform — pay-per-use by credit card, a first for South Africa.
PANEL 03 / 07 — 2008–2011

Chapter Two

Building the backbone

2008 → 2011

Infrastructure gets serious: a second data centre, a fibre ring between three cities, and a ten-year milestone.

2008
Cloud storage arrives
RSAWEB becomes one of the first South African ISPs to offer cloud storage to customers.
2009
Second data centre
A second, larger facility strengthens infrastructure for growing hosting and connectivity demand.
2011
10 years, fibre ring, FTTB
Ten-year anniversary. RAMP Foundation and the Partner Program launch, multi-gigabit fibre links Cape Town–Durban–Joburg, and Fibre-to-the-Business goes live.
PANEL 04 / 07 — 2012–2015

Chapter Three

Going cloud-native & mobile

2012 → 2015

Billing gets smarter, hosting gets managed, and RSAWEB steps into mobile — on its own, network-agnostic terms.

Early 2010s
MyRSAWEB & per-hour cloud
MyRSAWEB V2.0 launches. RSAWEB becomes the first ISP to offer per-hour billing for on-demand cloud server resources, plus managed WordPress hosting.
2015
RSAWEB Mobile launches
Launched in partnership with MTN — the start of South Africa's first mobile-network-agnostic data management platform, later adding Vodacom.
Mid 2010s
Fibre footprint expands
High-speed fibre reaches most business locations across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, with Solidfire IOPS storage added to the cloud stack.
PANEL 05 / 07 — 2016–2021

Chapter Four

Fibre to everyone

2016 → 2021

Fibre moves from offices to homes, RSAWEB shows up for customers through a global crisis, and the industry takes notice.

2016–18
Fibre-to-the-Home
FTTH rolls out across most networks, bringing uncapped speeds of up to 1Gbps to South African homes.
2020
In It Together
As the pandemic hits, RSAWEB launches a campaign helping families stay connected to loved ones during lockdown.

PANEL 06 / 07 — 2022–2026

The platform era

2022 → 2026

RSAWEB Business evolves from a fibre provider into a connectivity platform — fibre, mobile, microwave and cloud in one relationship.

2025
Almost 100 schools connected

2026
25 years old
RSAWEB marks 25 years — no longer "who is my ISP", but "who is enabling how I live and work."
